A MESSAGE FROM VALOR’S HEAD OF SCHOOL
With gratitude, I think about Valor Classical Academy and the growing potential that we will open the doors this fall. I have been enriched by my recent interviews with several talented and motivated faculty and leadership candidates. It is most encouraging and invigorating: these individuals desire to share their various gifts and passions to serve something beyond themselves, beyond all of us: envisioning, practicing, and sustaining the transcendentals (from transcendere, "to exceed") in our school community: truth, unity, being, and goodness. Arising from Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, and the medieval scholastics, the transcendentals were understood to be that which is most real, objective, and perfect: ultimate reality. Valor has the potential to be an extraordinary, unique, and special school, if we build it on the foundation of these transcendentals.
And that, my friends, is exactly what we are going to do. The faculty and staff are beginning to be formed, the right leaders are appearing, guided by something outside of themselves. I used to say, "I live for art," but after some time, I began to perceive something beyond art: these metaphysical ideals in the very nature of being itself. So now I strive to see the "transcendental icon" in every person I meet, as each created soul is beyond art, beyond time, formed and sustained in truth, unity, being, and goodness. And how much more must this be so for the 375 children who will enter Valor ready to learn, to grow... to sense for themselves the transcendental order beyond!
