October 3, 2022 | UPDATE
Valor Classical Academy reached another significant milestone on October 3, 2022, when the school’s charter proposal received unanimous approval from the authorizing board of Grace Schools Charter Authority, LLC.
The charter school rallied support at its local public hearing held in the Carmel Clay school district in September where residents of Carmel, Indianapolis, and cities throughout Hamilton County voiced their passion for school choice and Valor's time-tested curriculum.
Valor Classical Academy will become Hamilton County’s first tuition-free, K-12, classical charter school. The school will provide a civic-centered education rooted in American heritage and focused on character and virtue. Students will be taught to love learning and to develop good habits and character through the study of content-rich materials and enduring methods.
Valor is pursuing the former Orchard Park Elementary under Indiana’s “Dollar Law” for charter schools. In an effort to continue the appropriate educational use of the Orchard Park building, the charter school petitioned the Court for a ruling on this law. The Court is expected to render its decision before December 31, 2022.
Valor Classical Academy will be hosting a school information night on October 27, 2022, at 6:30pm at the Hensel Government Center in Carmel.
In preparation for welcoming K-6 students for the Fall of 2023, Valor is seeking volunteers and enrollment interest. Sign up at valorclassicalacademy.org and follow Valor on Facebook. For more information about Valor’s exciting upcoming events, please visit Valor’s Events page.

Proposed charter school, CCS at odds over availability of Orchard Park campus
According to state law, public school districts must make vacant school buildings available to charter schools to purchase or lease for $1 before selling or disposing of the building. The law states that districts must alert the Indiana Dept. of Education of plans to vacate a building within 10 days of the decision being made. The CCS school board voted on June 25, 2018, to close Orchard Park at the conclusion of the 2020-21 school year. CCS, however, hasn’t notified IDOE.
